New Lisbon - Charming Progress

Recently students from the high school spent a day donating their time to
the community in making New Lisbon the special place it is - a community
that cares about one another -

A drive through Juneau County's  second largest city will leave you with a positive impression - the impression that the locals not only care about their city, but they work hard at preserving the it's charm of yesterday while also pushing it forward into the future.

This is a community that gernerations of families have built and continue to do so - beautiful old victorian homes line many of the streets in town while progress of grows along the borders of the city.

Like Mauston,  New Lisbon is a hub of activity for locals and vacationers alike. Close to Buckhorn State Park, Castle Rock Lake, and other area attractions such as Mill Bluff State Park the county's second largest city is often the place to go to wander some shops, grab a bite to eat or spend some time with other socializing the night away and while having a beer or two.

A river town positioned on the banks of the Lemonweir River, New Lisbon   offers a comfortable place to relax and read a book - place a pole in the water - or take to the waters via a boat.

There are plenty of lodging establishments in and near by the city - some with all the comforts of home such as area motels, hotels, and bed and breakfasts and others that allow you to be one with nature as you camp under the stars.

In mid July you will find the city filled with activity for their annual Wa Du Shuda Days where the 3 day  event held on the banks of the river at Riverside Park has something for every member of the family from pontoon rides, vendors, games to a huge fireworks display.

New Lisbon's history is so rich that is has a place on the National Register of Historic Places - the Gee Slough's Group of Mounds is just south of the city limits off of  Hwy 12-16 -

For a map to the mounds contact the New Lisbon Chamber via this link

"The effigy's represented at the New Lisbon Gee's Slough group are the panther or water spirit, the totem of the clan. The linear mound was an important setting for the Woodland Indian's religious rites. The round or oval mound is sometimes joined by a linear mound to form a dumbell shaped mound and were also sites of burials of other members of the tribe. The mounds are always open to the pubilc, located just off of U.S. Highway 12 & 16, turing onto Mounds View Rd."

Close to the Wisconsin Dells, but far from the traffic and crowds
